Burbank Blvd Bridge Closing

Begins soon – possibly in February or March 2020

In early 2020, possibly as soon as February or March, Burbank Boulevard will be closed between San Fernando Boulevard and Front Street as crews begin the process of demolishing and reconstructing the Burbank Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 5. This closure is expected to last about 14 to 16 months, weather permitting. During demolition and reconstruction, Burbank Boulevard at I-5 will be closed at all times to all traffic: vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle.

During the bridge demolition and reconstruction, nine (9) freeway crossings will remain open and five (5) freeway interchanges will remain open to serve Burbank.

Nine (9) freeway crossings are open and accessible:
1. Hollywood Way
2. Cohasset Street
3. Buena Vista Street
4. Empire Avenue
5. Magnolia Boulevard
6. Olive Avenue
7. Verdugo Avenue
8. Flower Street
9. Alameda Avenue

Five (5) freeway interchanges are open and accessible:
1. Hollywood Way
2. Buena Vista Street
3. Empire Avenue
4. Verdugo Avenue
5. Alameda Avenue

And, the northbound I-5 off-ramp to eastbound Burbank Boulevard will remain open except for a few short closures throughout reconstruction. (The northbound I-5 off-ramp to westbound Burbank Boulevard, the southbound I-5 off-ramp to Burbank Boulevard, and the westbound Burbank Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-5 were closed at the beginning of October 2019.)

The new bridge overcrossing will be lengthened to accommodate the new I-5 carpool lanes, and the on-ramps and off-ramps will be reconfigured. In addition, the bridge will be widened to accommodate more street lanes, bike lanes in both directions and a wider sidewalk.

The schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change.
