I-5 will have up to two lanes closed in both directions from south of Imperial Highway to I-605 from 10 p.m. Monday June 18 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 19 to remove K-rail. Consider using I-605 to SR-91 as an alternate route.
The contractor is now pile driving and securing footings at the location of the old Pioneer Blvd. on ramp to northbound I-5. Local businesses and residences should expect noise from the pounding during normal daytime working hours.
The following work is now underway:
- Constructing approach slab to the San Antonio Bridge.
- Pouring base layer of concrete pavement for new northbound I-5 lanes between the San Antonio Bridge and the Imperial highway Bridge.
- Constructing curb and gutter near the San Antonio Bridge.
- Installing drainage along Norwalk Blvd.
At 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 23 the new Imperial Highway on ramp to northbound I-5 opened to the driving public. The on ramp is only accessible from westbound Imperial Highway for the first few months. Eastbound traffic on Imperial Highway is directed by signage to use northbound Firestone Blvd. to northbound I-605 to northbound I-5. (Photo below):
At 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, the Pioneer Blvd. on ramp to northbound I-5 closed permanently. Signs are in place to direct northbound and southbound traffic on Pioneer Blvd. over to Firestone Blvd. to northbound I-605 to northbound I-5 as the alternate route. This area will be used to construct two additional lanes on northbound I-5. Within the next few weeks, pile driving will begin here and it will last several weeks. Local residents should be aware of loud construction noise during the hours of 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Photo below):
I-5 from Silverbow Ave. north all the way up to Pioneer Blvd. is in varying stages of progress with crews spreading base (gravel), grading, compacting and paving. This activity includes compaction with a vibratory roller, so residents in the nearby neighborhoods may experience noise and vibration during the day.
As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction may be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
