Valley View Ave. Interchange Project – December 14 – December 21, 2018

Construction on this project is 36% complete.

Projected dates:
Completion of first half of Valley View Ave. Bridge: Revised to *late 2019.
Completion of second half of Valley View Ave. Bridge: Revised to *late 2021.
Completion of entire I-5 Valley View Ave. Interchange project: Revised to *late 2021.

I-5 scheduled to be closed in both directions between Artesia Blvd. and Carmenita Rd.:
• 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 until 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
• 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 until 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
• 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 until 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

Westbound SR-91 (Artesia Freeway) connector to northbound I-5:
• 11:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 until 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
• 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 until 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
• 11:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 until 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

Southbound I-605 (San Gabriel River Freeway) connector to southbound I-5 closed:
• 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 until 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
• 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 until 5 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
• 10:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 until 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.

S. Firestone Blvd. closed from Marquardt Ave. to the Valley View Ave. Bridge:
9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Sunday, Dec. 16 through the night of Thursday, Dec. 20. Work will be complete at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21

These closures are all scheduled for separate nights and will re-open each morning.

Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic to exit I-5 and use Artesia Blvd. to Carmenita Rd. back to I-5 or the reverse route. Map below:

Alternate route: Consider using westbound State Route 91 (Artesia Freeway) to northbound I-605 (San Gabriel River Freeway) or the reverse route.

 

A detour to S. Firestone Blvd. west of I-5 opened at 6 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.  The detour is between Marquardt Ave. and the new Valley View Ave. Bridge in Santa Fe Springs. In the past week workers poured asphalt, placed K-rail and striped lanes. This will provide a safe work space for us to demolish an old retaining wall and build a new one. Photos below:

 

Workers are constructing the falsework (temporary frame support) for the next (middle) section of the first half of the new Valley View Ave. Bridge just west of I-5 in Santa Fe Springs. Photos below from December 11 and December 13:

 

Construction of retaining walls for the new southbound Firestone Blvd. where it will connect to Valley View Ave. in La Mirada continues. Concrete forms are placed over rebar frame in preparation for concrete pour. Photos below from November 13 , 20 and 27:

 

At the Coyote Creek Bridge in La Mirada, the concrete abutment walls are complete. Photos below from November 13, November 27, and December 4 show the progress:

 

Construction of the pier walls that will support the new bridge over Coyote Creek, east of I-5 near Trojan Way in La Mirada, is complete. The bridge will carry the new lanes of I-5 and N. Firestone Blvd.  Photos below:

 

The final layer of concrete has been poured on the surface of the Valley View Ave. Bridge over Arbor Place and west of I-5 in Cerritos and most of the falsework has been removed from the sides.  Photos below:
