Valley View Ave. Interchange Project – Week of October 19- October 26, 2018

Construction on this project is 33% complete.

Projected dates:
Completion of first half of Valley View Ave. Bridge: Revised to *late 2019.
Completion of second half of Valley View Ave. Bridge: Revised to *late 2021.
Completion of entire I-5 Valley View Ave. Interchange project: Revised to *late 2021.

The portion of the Valley View Ave. Bridge over I-5: Workers have been removing the lumber forms from the concrete vertical support walls. These forms will then be used to build a horizontal base for a second grid of rebar. These forms are called “lost forms”, because once the concrete has been poured over the rebar grid, the forms will be left in place, but do not provide and structural support to the bridge.  Photos below from October 16. At the Coyote Creek Bridge in La Mirada, workers are drilling and pile driving to install bridge support columns during the day. Local businesses should expect vibration and loud pounding for several weeks. Photos below from October 16:


Construction of the pier walls that will support the new bridge over Coyote Creek, east of I-5 near Trojan Way in La Mirada, is complete. The bridge will carry the new lanes of I-5 and N. Firestone Blvd. Photos below show progress from October 9 to October 16:


Construction of the abutment wall east of I-5 continues. The footing and rebar frame are complete and forms have been placed over the frame in preparation to pour concrete. Photos below show progress from October 9 to October 16:


The intersection of Firestone Bl. at Valley View Ave. in La Mirada: grading and compacting are underway as we construct the first half of the new Firestone Bl. where it will elevate to meet the new Valley View Ave. Bridge. Photo below from October 16:

The final layer of concrete has been poured on the surface of the Valley View Ave. Bridge over Arbor Place and west of I-5 in Cerritos. Photos below from October 2:
